ASSOCHAM, in collaboration with the Department of Telecom, organized the 7th ASSOCHAM Global Telecom Summit last month in New Delhi. The summit was inaugurated by Minister of Telecommunications Kapil Sibal, who said that all the issues in context with the much talked about New Telecom Policy 2011 will be sorted out by August. He also spoke about the issue of rural inclusion and said that government is gigid on bridging the rural-urban divide through higher broadband access.

“India is huge country with millions of people in remote areas. We will have to invest heavily in high speed broadband infrastructure so that education, healthcare and banking services reach every citizen. BWA laid down in next 3-4 years will be the mode of education in 10 years. A multi-threaded Web server uses less memory because it uses a single memory pool for all simultaneous requests. This is different from using multi-process Web servers, like when you use Apache in pre-fork mode. This is the mode that most Apache based PHP sites use. In this mode, each request is handled by a separate OS process. Each process has its own memory pool.

The main problem of using multi-process Web servers is that when a process uses a large chunk of memory, that memory is not returned to the OS until the process exits. Even if subsequent requests handled by the same process do not need so much memory, the unused memory space cannot be reused by other processes that may be handling other simultaneous requests.

Apache can be forced to kill pre-forked processes once in a while in order to perform memory recycling, but there is always a waste of memory until the process exit happens.

The memory usage details are very important for sites that require more than one server machine. The memory used by the Web server processes determines how many simultaneous requests each Web server machine can handle.

For instance, if you have a Web server with 1GB of RAM and each PHP request takes 10MB of RAM, in theory it can handle less than 100 of simultaneous requests. If all programs running in the same machine use more than the physically available RAM, the OS has to use virtual memory and the machine starts slowing down, as it has to swap physical memory blocks with virtual memory segments in disk.

This is why a server that takes an excessive amount of simultaneous requests can be halted, causing what is known as a DOS: Denial Of Service. With Apache, you can use the configuration directive MaxClients to limit the number of simultaneous requests. That will prevent the machine to halt, but the Web server starts queuing incoming requests. This means that the requests may be handled with a great delay or even be ignored.

This is a matter that was previously discussed in a past article about the use of multi-threaded Web servers for handling high traffic. Notice that in that article it is recommended the use of multi-threaded Web servers only for serving static files like images, CSS and Javascript.

The new aspect of HipHop PHP compiler is that Facebook developers have made an effort to convert PHP extensions in such way that they are thread-safe. This means that they can run without crashing multi-threaded Web server programs, which is what the HipHop compiler generates.

In this function we will get the 10005 and 10006 as the child nodes of 10001 and when we try to the find the child nodes of 10005 we get 10001. Hence this is a loop condition where again and again this process is running and system faces the deadlock situation.

Server cannot get the resultant page and in this case server posts the error: Internal Server Error 5000

This error is also stored in error log file and .htaccess file.

To resolve this error follow these steps:

1. Check PHP coding timeout error.
2. Check for Syntax or coding errors in your PHP script
3. Check database structure.
4. Check the data base flow.
5. Print each steps  using “die()” command  for getting the problem.

If you check all these thing and problem is not resolved from your end then check your “.htacccess file”.

Yesterday, I was working on a very huge database project at vapsoft Technologies, I was so scary to see PHP hangs on numeric value  2.2250738585072011E-30. More than 26% of the projects are running on the PHP language and maximum numbers of software engineers are working on PHP platform. Till now I was not aware of this type of error.

I face this type of strangle bug in PHP: this code is responsible for an infinite loop:

I have tested this type of error in many ways like no. without scientific notation — 324 floating places. You can hit this bug on Linux (PHP 5.3.2-1ubuntu4.5) and on Windows  (PHP 5.3.1 XAMPP 1.7.3).

You can’t face the problem when you pass the string, 2.2250738585072011e-308 but you will face the problem when you treated this string as a numeric value.

This will work:

Now, after a large amount of stuff I found that PHP development team has released PHP 5.3.5 and 5.2.17. This version resolves a vital issue, reported as PHP bug #53632 and CVE-2010-4645, where the double-string conversions could cause the PHPinterpreter to hang on systems that use x87 FPU registers. The problem is known to only affect PHP processes x86 32-bit,regardless of whether the housing system PHP is 32 bits or 64bits. You can test if the system is affected by the execution of this script from the command line.
