Global Telecom Summit
Telecommunication industry has taken milestones since 10 years. Industry leaders from IT and telecom discussed about the glory of the rapidly growing telecom sector and how the Indian economy can benefit from it in the future. ASSOCHAM, in collaboration with the Department of Telecom, organized the 7th ASSOCHAM Global Telecom Summit last month in New Delhi. The event, which was organized to discuss the various issues and achievements of the rapidly growing telecom sector, witnessed many from the top leadership of major telecom and IT companies pondering on areas like expanding growth, infrastructure, spectrum and market structure, amid others.
The summit was inaugurated by Minister of Telecommunications Kapil Sibal, who said that all the issues in context with the much talked about New Telecom Policy 2011 will be sorted out by August. He also spoke about the issue of rural inclusion and said that government is gigid on bridging the rural-urban divide through higher broadband access.
“India is huge country with millions of people in remote areas. We will have to invest heavily in high speed broadband infrastructure so that education, healthcare and banking services reach every citizen. BWA laid down in next 3-4 years will be the mode of education in 10 years. There could be a mind-boggling change in the country in next 10 years as the demand of local based content will give enormous opportunity to IT sector,” he said.
Industry honchos like D. Sivakumar of Nokia, R. Sivakumar of Intel, P. Balagi of Ericsson, Dilip Modi of Spice who is also ASSOCHAM chairman, were also present on the occasion along with others. The members of the panel discussed on topics like
Value Added Services (VAS)
New Telecom Policy, provision for inclusive growth, challenges in expanding sector in rural belt and spectrum issues. A Value Added Services (VAS) are the non-core services directly relate to telecommunications industry. On the growth VAS (Value added services) sector, the panelists emphasized that demand for location based content will give enormous opportunity to IT sector and will also strengthen the rural base.

Hi admin, Good article. Main objective of 7th Global telecom summit will be frustrating for the providers (companies). Because now government is tight for VAS.
